It has been a very busy time for Mangawhai Central’s management team.

The first stage of earthworks are now complete and although the site may appear quiet, it couldn’t be more active behind the scenes. A development of this scale has many facets to it, including working through Kaipara District Council requirements and formalising contracts with potential anchor tenants – which brings us to an exciting announcement!

We are delighted to confirm that a New World supermarket will open at Mangawhai Central.

Upon actively engaging with the community, Mangawhai Central received support for a supermarket and retail development on site, and the opportunity to be the first supermarket in Mangawhai sparked strong interest from the major grocery suppliers. After careful consideration, we’re thrilled that Foodstuffs North Island have secured the spot; a proudly 100% New Zealand owned and operated grocery co-operative.

Foodstuffs North Island’s General Manager of Property and Membership Lindsay Rowles says,

“Mangawhai is a rapidly growing beachside community and an important location for us to grow the New World brand. Our investment in New World Mangawhai Central will enable us to serve locals year-round, as well as the beachgoers who flock to the scenic town during summer months.”

The store will provide fresh and quality butchery, produce, seafood, deli, and bakery departments, an extensive range of products with a focus on local and seasonal, and a superior customer experience that shoppers have grown to expect and love from New World. It will also introduce new jobs in the area and will be a fabulous place to work for those seeking a new and exciting work environment.

Timeframes look favourable for a late 2021 opening, just in time for Christmas and the summer season.

Rowles finishes, “We’re looking forward to collaborating with the Mangawhai community on potential store features, and sharing more about what shoppers can expect over the coming years.”

The new store will cater for projected population growth in the area, while staying at a size and character deemed suitable for Mangawhai.

In other news, we continue to market 14 local community service sites in the Service Zone at Mangawhai Central. If an investment or leasing option interests you, please contact Bayleys to find out more.

Save the Date!

Finally, Mangawhai Central is a community-led project. We have held two public meetings along with informal ‘drop in’ sessions at the Mangawhai Library Hall. All of these initiatives have proved invaluable for introducing, updating and canvassing ideas on the development as a whole.

We are now putting the final plans in place for a third public meeting to be held on Thursday, 24th October 2019 at The Mangawhai Club. Again, we look forward to your input and seeing you on the night. On the agenda will be the latest masterplan details, along with streetscape designs and other interesting news.

We will send you a reminder soon.

Best wishes,

The Mangawhai Central Project Team
